Who is behind BeautyGeekery?
Hi, that would be me, Claire Coleman, a London-based freelance journalist who’s spent more than 20 years writing (predominantly about the geekier side of beauty) for a number of national newspapers and magazines.
Dubbed “The Forensic Beauty Journalist” by my mate Emma Gunavardhana, I pride myself on deep dive investigations into brands, products and ingredients, that often unearth information that brands and PRs might rather you didn’t know.
As a writer, my loyalty has always been to the reader. And in a world of beauty overwhelm, buzzwords and, to be quite honest, a lot of BS, I want people who read what I write to come away feeling more informed and more confident about the beauty decisions they’re making.
Why does BeautyGeekery exist?
Partly as an outlet for all the random geeky beauty stuff that I trip over on a weekly basis and want to share but can’t necessarily shoehorn into the pieces I’m working on for newspapers and magazines. But also because the world of journalism has changed and I still want to write (and still believe there’s an audience for) the sort of features I used to be commissioned to write that don’t tend to be commissioned these days. Ultimately I’d like BeautyGeekery to pay its way in the same way that the rest of the writing that I do does.
Why subscribe?
You’ll get a weekly newsletter, delivered to your inbox (or read it in the Substack app) that looks at the geekier side of beauty. Yes there will be some product recommendations in there, but, more broadly, I hope you’ll feel that you’ve learnt something that is not only interesting but will help you make better beauty decisions — and save money.
