I found you via Emma G and I’m so pleased I did. I’m 50+ and have become more interested in skin care as I age and as I now have more time and disposable income.

Of course it’s easy to be influenced by new product launches on Insta but I’m genuinely interested in the science and therefore the effectiveness of what I’m buying.

Your Substack seems to be exactly the right place to get knowledgeable, current information so thank you!

Ah, welcome! I’m so pleased you’re here. Do let me know if there’s anything you want investigated as I’m very open to suggestions.

Ahahah thank you for mentioning my bird photos: sadly those have disappeared into the Instagram story ether where they probably belong! LOVED this dive into standards and marketing claims

This is such great information! I love Byoma - I think I have every single thing in their line now and I definitely have reordered the serums a few times now for me and my friends. Thanks for sharing !

Thank you! What’s your favourite Byoma product?

I can confirm that the Medicube pore pads are effective. After a year of using them weekly, they've made my pores less noticeable and provided some light exfoliation. After first use, I could see a real difference in smoothness.

I can’t remember where you were recommended to me—maybe by Laura Capon? I saw your comment on Trinny London serum reviews yesterday on Jane’s media and found it really interesting! At 55, I’ve realised I don’t need to buy the entire product range for maximum effectiveness (Clinique 3 Step, anyone?). I hadn’t heard of MediK8 before, so that’s great info. Formulas often get changed, possibly for cost savings. What are your thoughts on products once they’re out of patent, like Skinceuticals CE Ferulic and similar “dupes”?

Well I'm delighted you found me, however you got here. And yes, I feel like the beauty brands have done a brilliant job of getting us to believe that you need a whole regime so it works for the best but a well-formulated product should just work with others. I am very fond of Skinceuticals CE Ferulic — it was not just the first of its ilk when it came to market, but it also had a load of really credible evidence behind it. I know that there are now a load of other serums that contain very similar ingredients but — partly because they're from smaller companies that might have less money, and partly because they've not been around as long — they don't have the same volume of evidence behind them. That absolutely doesn't mean that they aren't as effective, just that they can't — yet — show that they are. If you are looking for a C E Ferulic alternative, I hear very good things about Geek & Gorgeous C-Glow — plus it's very inexpensive so if you hate it, I don't feel bad for having recommended it X
